As the president of The Merrin Gallery, Inc., Samuel Merrin has been instrumental in creating many major collections in America and Europe. Clients include some of the leading museums of the world, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Sackler Art Museum at Harvard University, the Yale University Art Gallery, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Newark Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the J. The Merrin Gallery, Inc. is owned by Samuel Merrin together with Moshe Bronstein; it was established in 1987. While formally incorporated that year, it is a second generation ancient art business founded by Edward Merrin in the mid 1960s, when he started dealing in pre-Columbian art, becoming an expert in this field. Samuel Merrin is an authority on pre-Columbian and ancient art from Eastern Mediterranean cultures. Samuel is often asked and gives appraisals for indemnifying major pre-Columbian and antiquities exhibitions for U.S. museums, and has authenticated works for auction houses, dealers, and leading museums.

Edward Merrin's son, Samuel, who formally took over the business in 1999, has been involved with ancient art his entire life. As a child Samuel Merrin frequently visited his father's gallery and worked there during many summer vacations. Samuel was fascinated by the beauty and history of the objects he handled. After receiving a BA from Tufts University, Samuel Merrin worked at The Cloisters Museum and interned at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York.

Samuel Merrin is a recognized expert in the authenticity and value of ancient art from antiquities to pre-Columbian art, appraising ancient objects for I.A.A.A.T.A., various clients, and institutions. Samuel Merrin has coordinated several major exhibitions, and published accompanying catalogues of objects for sale. Samuel has often been quoted as an expert in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and many art magazines, as well as on live television.
